6 Inch Castor Wheels: The EH8 150 mm Heavy-Duty Rang

6 Inch Castor Wheels: The EH8 150 mm Heavy-Duty Range

Six inch is the size people reach for when a five inch wheel gets them through the door but not through the load. The EH8 range in 150 mm carries 300 kg per wheel on the same 114 × 100 mm plate as our five inch version, so a cart that already runs on that plate can go up a size without redrilling the frame.

Below are the measured numbers for the EH08-11-150S-402 — the swivel, ball-bearing, blue-zinc, iron-core PU version — and what changes when you pick rigid, dual-brake or edge-braked.

Who Buys a 150 mm Castor, and Who Should Not

  • Buy the six inch when the cart is loaded above about 700 kg;
  • Buy the six inch when floor joints and thresholds fight a smaller wheel;
  • Buy the six inch when the swivel radius you get at five inch is squeezing the aisle.It rolls easier than 125 mm on rough concrete and sits about 25 mm higher, which matters on tall equipment frames.

Do not buy it “for future-proofing.” A cart at 400 kg does not need a 300 kg wheel. The bigger wheel costs more, raises the load height, and needs a wider aisle — three costs you have not earned.

The Numbers — EH08-11-150S-402

Parameter Value Picture
Wheel diameter 150 mm (6″) caster wheel
Wheel width 45 mm
Tread Iron-core polyurethane, red, ~95 Shore A
Bearing Ball bearing
Bracket finish Blue zinc plated
Load per wheel 300 kg
Mounting height 190 mm
Swivel radius (free) 115 mm
Swivel radius (dual brake engaged) 145 mm
Top plate 114 × 100 mm
Hole spacing (centre-to-centre) 84 × 71 mm
Hole diameter 11 mm

The plate, hole pattern and hole diameter are identical to the 100 mm and 125 mm versions in this series. That is deliberate: you change the wheel size without changing the frame.

The Four Versions in This Size

Same wheel, same bracket sheet, four mounting styles. Pick by how the cart behaves, not by habit.

Style SKU What it does Picture
Swivel EH08-11-150S-402 Standard turning. Usually two of these on the load end. rigid caster wheel
Rigid EH08-11-150R-402 Fixed direction. Two of these on the handle end keep the cart tracking straight. swivel caster wheel
Swivel with dual brake EH08-11-150SB-402

One pedal locks the wheel and the swivel.

The pedal pushes the envelope out to 145 mm — check your aisle before you order the braked version.

swivel dual brake caster wheel
Swivel with edge brake EH08-11-150SC-402 Foot pedal on the wheel face. Slower operation, smaller footprint than the dual-brake pedal. swivel side brake caster wheel

The classic layout is two swivel plus two rigid. All-swivel only makes sense when the cart turns in its own length on a regular basis.

Tread Choices — Same Bracket, Four Wheels

The bracket is the EH8 pressed steel. What changes across the row is the wheel.

Tread SKU suffix Best for Picture
Iron-core PU (red) -402 General heavy industrial use. Loads up to 300 kg, epoxy or sealed concrete. The default. Iron-core PU (red)
Super PU -304 Quieter rolling on smooth floors, slightly better floor marking resistance. Super PU
Premium PU -302 Same load rating, slightly softer roll, for longer push distances. Premium PU
Yellow nylon -210 Wet, greasy or chemical spills where PU would pick up contaminants. Louder on joints. Yellow nylon

The 300 kg rating applies to the PU variants and to the nylon in this row. Do not read it across to other series — every row has its own number, and that number lives on the spec sheet.

How to Size It

Divide your loaded cart weight by four, then add a margin. The number on the caster is per wheel on a flat, smooth floor, at walking speed.

Worked example. A loaded cart weighs 900 kg.900 ÷ 4 = 225 kg per wheel.The EH8 150 mm at 300 kg gives about a 1.33× margin — normal for push carts.

If the same cart were 1,100 kg, 1000÷4=275 kg per wheel, you are at 275 kg per wheel and the margin thins; that is the point where the 150 mm stops being comfortable and you move up a series.

Keep three things in the margin:

  • Occasional shock when the cart crosses a joint;
  • The wheel that bears more than its share on a bumpy floor;
  • The day someone loads 20% over design.

Building and Materials

The bracket is pressed steel with a ball swivel raceway, ball bearing in the wheel, and blue zinc plating. In our own stamping and injection shops — we do not buy finished brackets or wheels to resell. That matters for the questions above: when a buyer sends back a sample that measures wrong, the person who answers has seen the press, not just the catalog.

Standard lead time is 30 days on stocked sizes, warranty one year. The 6 inch EH8 is in regular stock, not made to order.

Installation

  1. Fix the plate to a flat frame member. A warped frame plate loads the fork sideways and shortens swivel life.
  2. Use the 11 mm holes. Do not over-drill or you lose the plate’s bearing area.
  3. Two swivel on one end, two rigid on the other, matching the handle position.
  4. Torque to the frame builder’s own spec — they know their tube gauge.
  5. Run an empty cart around the planned aisle. Swivel radius is 115 mm free, 145 mm braked; the cart needs that much space on both sides.

FAQ

Is 150 mm the same as 6 inch? Nominally yes; the measured wheel diameter is 150 mm. Spec by millimetres on the drawing, not by the inch label.

What does this cart weigh when loaded? We do not know your frame. Size from your loaded weight, not from our wheel.

Can you do a stainless bracket? No. This bracket is blue zinc plated. If washdown or corrosion is the application, the stainless range is a different family — ask, and we will say which one it is, rather than promise this one in steel.

Swivel or all-swivel? Two plus two, unless the cart has to turn inside its own length regularly.
