8 Inch Caster Wheels (200 mm): The EG1 Flat-Plate Swivel, 350 kg per Wheel

An 8 inch caster wheel buys clearance over dock thresholds, expansion joints and rough floor joints, and a load figure small casters cannot reach. The EG01-11-200S-302 on this page pairs a 200 mm advanced polyurethane tread with a flat-plate swivel bracket rated at 350 kg per wheel. It is the largest size of the EG1 flat-plate range, not a furniture caster.

What Is on This Page

Rated dimensions of the EG1 8 inch unit, bracket and brake variants on the 114 × 100 mm plate, the listed tread options, a worked four-wheel load calculation, mounting measurements and the cases where this size is the wrong choice. Buyers in the UK and Australia search “castor wheels”; the physical product and the dimensions below are identical.

Primary Model: EG01-11-200S-302

The main model is a swivel plate caster. Code breakdown: EG01 = EG1 flat-plate series, first 1 = ball bearing, second 1 = blue zinc bracket finish, 200 = 200 mm wheel, S = swivel, 302 = advanced polyurethane tread.

Parameter Value (EG01-11-200S-302) Picture
Wheel diameter 200 mm (8 inch) Caster Design Drawing
Wheel width 45 mm
Rated load per wheel (dynamic) 350 kg
Bearing Ball bearing
Bracket finish Blue zinc plated steel
Overall mounting height 241 mm
Swivel turning radius 145 mm
Dual-brake (SA) turning radius 153 mm
Top plate size 114 × 100 mm
Hole center spacing 84 × 71 mm
Bolt hole diameter 11 mm
Tread Advanced polyurethane, flat tread

Every figure above comes from our published EG1 flat-plate specification sheet. Where a dimension exists only for a brake variant, it is listed on that variant rather than assumed for the swivel unit.

How the Load Rating Reaches the Cart

The 350 kg figure is per wheel under dynamic rolling use on a flat, hard surface at walking speed. A four-caster cart does not automatically carry 1400 kg as a design limit; engineers keep reserve for uneven floor, starting torque and cornering. The wheel load should stay below the rated value rather than sit on it.

Cart all-in mass Load on each of 4 casters (÷4) Fit against 350 kg/wheel
900 kg 225 kg Comfortable; reserve about 1.56×
1100 kg 275 kg Acceptable; reserve about 1.27×
1400 kg 350 kg At the rated limit; do not design a production cart this way

On a four-wheel arrangement two wheels often carry more than two others during a turn or over a threshold. Running 1400 kg on four casters rated 350 kg leaves no margin. If your working mass sits near that line, select a wider-rated series rather than ordering the rated-limit setup.

Bracket and Brake Variants on the Same Plate

All four bracket codes below share the 114 × 100 mm plate, 84 × 71 mm hole centers and 11 mm holes, so a frame drilled once can be fitted with any of them. Wheel size, tread and the 350 kg bracket rating stay the same; steering and braking change.

Variant SKU (302 tread example) What it does Use case Picture
Swivel S EG01-11-200S-302 Turns about the swivel raceway The steering end of a four-wheel cart  swivel
Rigid R EG01-11-200R-302 Fixed direction, no steering The load end, paired with swivels at the handle end 高级聚氨酯(1)
Swivel dual brake SA EG01-11-200SA-302 Locks wheel rotation and swivel direction Carts parked on ramps, lifts or slopes 高级聚氨酯(3)
Swivel side brake SC EG01-11-200SC-302 Locks wheel rotation; swivel remains free Wheeling that must not roll but may still settle straight 高级聚氨酯

On this 200 mm size the SA dual-brake envelope measures 153 mm, slightly wider than the 145 mm free-swivel radius. Size the aisle or turn pocket from the locked-brake unit when any caster in the set carries a brake.

Tread Options for the 200 mm Bracket

The same bracket body takes the listed tread compounds. The 350 kg bracket rating belongs to the bracket; tread choice changes rolling feel, noise and floor protection rather than the bracket’s rated load.

Tread code Material as listed Behavior Where it suits Picture
302 Advanced polyurethane (main model) All-PU tread, low mark risk on sealed floors, moderate rolling resistance General plant carts and flat hard floors Casters made of different materials
306 Super-quiet polyurethane Quieter over expansion joints and small floor cracks Corridors near quiet zones, low-noise operation Casters made of different materials
310 Quiet polyurethane (Meijing) Softened PU feel for medium-speed rolling Floors where chatter matters more than peak speed Casters made of different materials
208 Meili listed tread Synthetic-style tread; confirm hardness and floor mark test before order Budget general plant use on open concrete Casters made of different materials
701 Cast iron tread Hard metal, high wear resistance but marks and rings on smooth hard floors Rough open yard and unfinished floors; avoid on epoxy and tile

If the floor is epoxy, vinyl or polished concrete, stay on a polyurethane tread. Cast iron on those surfaces leaves drag marks and rolls loud. If the floor is rough outdoor concrete, send a floor description before we confirm the tread.

Why 200 mm, Not a Smaller Wheel

Move to the 200 mm size when one of three conditions shows up: the cart crosses dock lips, expansion joints or door thresholds without sticking; the loaded mass pushes past the reserve a smaller plate caster can give; or operators complain about steering effort because a smaller wheel drops into cracks.

What the larger wheel costs: mounting height reaches 241 mm, which sets the cart deck height, and the turn envelope grows to 145–153 mm, which widens the minimum turn path. A low-profile cart does not want an 8 inch wheel merely because the load allows it. Castor buyers in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand use the same 200 mm sizing and the same 114 × 100 mm plate; the spelling difference between caster and castor changes no hole dimension.

Construction Details

  • Swivel raceway formed on our own stamping line with a ball track; the raceway, not the wheel, decides how many years a swivel turns smoothly.
  • Ball bearing inside the wheel hub, matched to the 45 mm tread width.
  • Blue zinc finish on the steel bracket for dry indoor plants. This finish serves warehouse and workshop conditions, not washdown or constantly wet outdoor service; those duties take a separate corrosion-resistant bracket series that we specify after you describe the cycle.
  • PU treads in this range are cast in our own PU pouring shop; where the bracket and bearing remain sound, a worn tread can be replaced without scrapping the whole caster.

Typical Applications

  • Material handling trailers pushed or towed between work cells.
  • Maintenance and tool carts carrying dense equipment in the high-hundred-kilogram range.
  • Platform trucks and order-picking trolleys on flat concrete with minor thresholds.
  • Equipment stands moved into place and locked with SA dual brakes.

Not the target: light office furniture, patient beds on soft tile, and any cart needing a soft quiet rubber over delicate floors. Those use lighter, softer treads in other series.

Mounting and Installation Notes

  1. Confirm the frame plate opening matches 114 × 100 mm and the bolt holes match 84 × 71 mm centers at 11 mm diameter. A plate that does not sit flat twists the raceway and shortens swivel life.
  2. On a four-wheel cart use two swivel units at the steering end and two rigid units at the fixed end. All-swivel carts run hard to steer straight at load; all-rigid carts cannot turn short.
  3. Tighten fasteners to the frame builder’s own torque spec. Their tube or sheet gauge decides the tightening value, not ours.
  4. Check the 241 mm mounting height against the deck you are building; when wheels of different sizes share a cart, every wheel must reach the floor under load.
  5. On SA units, press the brake pedal fully down before leaving the cart; a half-locked brake drags and heats the tread.

FAQ

What size bolt fits the mounting holes?

Holes are 11 mm diameter on the 114 × 100 mm plate. Match bolt grade and length to frame thickness; a through-bolt with washers both sides holds better than self-tapping screws in thin sheet.

Can I mix S and SA on the same cart?

Yes. A common layout uses two SA braked swivels at one end and two R rigid units at the other. Send the cart orientation with the inquiry and we list the four SKUs in one quotation.

What is the difference between 350 kg per wheel and cart capacity?

350 kg is the per-wheel rating on our sheet. Cart capacity depends on caster count, the reserve factor your application standard requires, and floor condition. Use the table above rather than multiplying 350 × 4 and treating that as a guaranteed working load.

Is this bracket suitable for a wet washdown line?

The blue zinc EG1 bracket is a dry indoor unit. Chemical washdown and regular wet cleaning use a corrosion-resistant bracket series; give us the wash cycle and cleaning chemical before we point to the right model.

Can the tread be a different color or hardness?

The listed 208, 302, 306, 310 and 701 compounds are the stocked options for this bracket size. A non-listed color or hardness on this 200 mm bracket is on request; send the load and floor type before quoting it.

When This Model Is Not the Buy

If the cart stays under about 500 kg all-in, a smaller plate caster in the same general range costs less, sits lower and turns in a narrower aisle. If the floor is outdoors with puddles and frequent washing, do not order a blue zinc bracket because the page shows 350 kg — corrosion sets the failure date before the load does. If you send total mass, floor type and aisle width, we say whether 200 mm is overkill.
