When installing industrial casters, many people tend to focus on wheel diameter, load-bearing capacity, material, and bracket thickness, but overlook the accuracy of the bottom plate hole position. It was only discovered during on-site installation that the hole positions were not aligned, the bolts were barely inserted, and the casters were misaligned after installation. Seemingly just a minor installation issue, it may actually affect the equipment’s stress, steering smoothness, and later maintenance. For batch equipment, hole accuracy is not just a small detail, but a fundamental condition that affects assembly efficiency and stability of use.
1. Why is the bottom plate hole position important?
Flat bottomed casters are usually fixed to the bottom of the equipment with multiple bolts. The position of the bottom plate hole determines whether the casters can accurately match the installation holes of the equipment, and also affects the fitting state of the contact surface between the bottom plate and the equipment after installation. If the deviation of the hole position is large, the installation personnel may need to forcibly adjust the angle or even enlarge the hole. Although temporarily installed, this may put the casters in an unfavorable stress state from the beginning.
2. What on-site problems will hole position deviation bring?
The direct issue is a decrease in installation efficiency. When assembling in bulk, if each caster needs to be repeatedly drilled, adjusted, or reworked, it will significantly slow down the production pace. A more subtle issue is that forced assembly may result in uneven bolt stress, partial suspension of the base plate, or deviation of the support direction. After the equipment is running, these abnormalities may gradually manifest as looseness, abnormal noise, poor steering, or accelerated local wear.
3. Not being able to fit in is considered qualified
Some on-site inspections determine whether the hole position is appropriate, only looking at whether the bolt can penetrate. In fact, the ideal state for installing casters is for the holes to align naturally, the base plate to fit smoothly, and the bolts to be fixed without forcibly prying. If it is necessary to forcefully pull the bracket, diagonally thread the bolt, or repeatedly tap and adjust during the installation process, it indicates that at least one of the hole position, equipment hole, or assembly status needs to be rechecked.
4. The installation holes of the equipment also need to be checked synchronously
Hole position issues may not necessarily come from the casters. Some equipment baseboards may deform during welding, spraying, or transportation, and there may also be machining errors in the installation holes. If only the bottom plate of the caster is inspected without checking the installation surface of the equipment, it is easy to misjudge. Especially when it is difficult to repeatedly assemble the same batch of casters on several devices, it is even more important to return to the device structure itself and confirm the installation hole spacing, flatness, and surface condition.
5. Pay attention to consistency when purchasing in bulk
The fact that samples can be installed does not mean that every piece of the bulk order can maintain the same assembly experience. For batch equipment projects, consistency in the spacing, aperture, and installation surface dimensions of the bottom plate holes is crucial. During procurement and acceptance, key dimensions can be randomly inspected, and actual equipment or gauges can be used for trial assembly. This can detect batch deviations in advance and avoid exposing problems during the assembly stage of the production line.
6. The accuracy of the hole position will also affect later maintenance
Casters are vulnerable and maintenance components, and may need to be replaced in the future. If the initial installation is completed by enlarging the hole, installing diagonally, or forcibly aligning, future maintenance personnel will also encounter the same trouble when replacing the casters. Standard, accurate, and repeatable installation hole positions can make later replacements faster and reduce equipment structural risks caused by temporary hole changes.
7. Procurement communication can clarify this information
When selecting, in addition to providing the size of the base plate, it is also necessary to confirm the hole spacing, hole diameter, installation direction, equipment hole tolerance, and whether compatibility with old equipment is required. If it is a replacement project, please provide the original size of the caster base plate or physical photos; If it is a new device development, the caster drawings and equipment installation drawings should be matched in advance. Placing hole confirmation at the front is more reliable than on-site temporary modifications.
